The contractor responsible for managing operations of the Barron County Waste to Energy Plant was abruptly terminated yesterday by a unanimous vote of the Barron County Solid Waste Board.

In addition, the County Executive Committee also moved to support ending the plant management contract immediately with ZAC Inc. County officials were quick to add that operations at the plant will continue without interruption and that a new management team is already in place to run the plant.

Earlier this month, the Executive Committee had voted to close the financially struggling incinerator at the plant, but during their monthly meeting last week the full county board of supervisors voted unanimously to delay taking any further action on the future of the incinerator.

As for yesterday events, County Board Chairman Jess Miller and County Administrator Jeff French said in a statement that the county anticipates no interruption of any kind and at this time, and is committed to keeping the Barron County Waste to Energy plant
open for the foreseeable future.
